BOOK DESCRIPTION

Mommy Fabulous is a comprehensive prenatal nutrition and exercise guide that fitness trainer and nutritional counselor Danielle Federico, M.P.H. developed for her own pregnancy aimed to create an even better body after having a baby.

The first half of Mommy Fabulous focuses on nutrition, exploring Danielle’s personal philosophy.  She goes beyond the typical books about prenatal nutrient needs, teaching women how to make food choices so they gain healthy weight rather than pack on body fat while pregnant.  Danielle’s unique style of eating teaches women how to have a positive relationship with food, which in-turn helps you protect your baby’s development and future health.  This all-natural approach to eating improves metabolism so that weight loss is much easier after delivery.

Danielle engineered a workout plan that considers the abilities of the pregnant body, accounting for the weaknesses and the common discomforts in order to match them with activities that mitigate those effects and maximize your ability to emerge from pregnancy with a more toned, sculpted body.  From a physical rehabilitation standpoint, she views childbirth as an abdominal injury and incorporates exercises into the pregnancy program that accelerate postpartum recovery time.  Mommy Fabulous is a unique approach fusing Pilates, strength training, and core rehabilitation techniques for pregnancy. Exercise descriptions are followed by troubleshooting tips, safety recommendations, and beginner and advanced modifications, allowing the reader to customize their workouts.  Trimester modifications maximize safety and allow the program to evolve as abilities change during pregnancy.

Mommy Fabulous continues to support the reader with a safe rehabilitation based fitness plan beginning twenty-four hours after delivery through the following six months.  Danielle’s postpartum plan teaches women how to incorporate recovery techniques into daily life with a newborn. Mommy Fabulous provides expert coaching balanced with personal antidotes, motivational tips, and functional advice.  Danielle followed her own advice and recovered from childbirth to her best body ever.  By six months postpartum you too, can be Mommy Fabulous!

BOOK REVIEWS

Must Have!!

Mommy Fabulous is the only book you will need to keep yourself healthy and fit both during and after pregnancy. I remember researching a ton of different books that were supposed to show me how to stay fit during pregnancy and help me lose the baby weight after. All of them I found lacking in one way or another. Mommy Fabulous is the total package. It provides not only a simple step-by-step workout plan broken down by trimester and fitness level, it is also an in depth nutrition guide. The nutrition guide provides information not only on food but also provides great info on vitamins and herbal supplements, what to look for and avoid in the food you buy from the store and (my favorite) a Mommy Fabulous cookbook. Try the tacos they are awesome! The fitness guide helps you put together an exercise plan that fits your fitness level. All the exercises in the book come with clear instructions and pictures showing how to do each one. It also talks about how to ease your body into exercises after pregnancy providing a recovery plan broken down by week. Overall this is a great book and would make a great gift as well. -Sarah (amazon.com)
Most helpful pregnancy book!
Without Mommy Fabulous I might have given up on eating well and exercise while I was pregnant. I had no idea there was a specific way you should exercise while pregnant. Mommy Fabulous very clearly explains a lot of confusing information you get while pregnant about eating, weight gain and exercise. It answered questions I didn’t think to ask. The exercises are designed to prevent common pregnancy aches and shorten postpartum recovery time. I loved the “I’m Too Tired to Exercise” workout which I did lying on the floor. I loved the chapters on healthy eating and nutrition that don’t require calorie counting. I learned so much about food. The book includes natural solutions for any pregnancy ailment from headaches, swelling, cravings, morning sickness…you name it. After I delivered, the postpartum section helped me get in shape. It showed me ways to recover with my baby that I never would have thought of. The advice in this book works! I quickly lost all the baby weight and was surprised that I already had toned abs underneath. All of my friends and family were so impressed! -ARHicks (amazon.com)
Best Pregnancy Book Ever
When I got pregnant with my first child I spent hours in book stores looking for a pregnancy fitness book so that I could continue to work out safely and effectively. There were lots of books telling me what I could not do but none telling me what I could do, or more importantly, what I should do. I went through my pregnancy doing little more than walking and gained more than I should have. Needing to lose my baby weight I started working out with Dani as my personal trainer. She taught me exercise that allowed me to get into better shape than I was in before I got pregnant. When I got pregnant with my second child, I used Mommy Fabulous as my guide. I was so excited to have a book that explained exercises and nutrition that was appropriate while pregnant. I took this book with me to the gym and grocery store. As my pregnancy progressed I would move on to modified exercises outlined in the book. I worked out up until the night before I delivered my healthy baby girl; this delivery was even easier and quicker than my first delivery. Since baby, I have used the book to get back to my pre-baby jeans. I couldn’t have done it without Mommy Fabulous! This is a must have for pregnant moms!  -Marla  (amazon.com)
Great book to help you feel great and get your body back in shape!
I found it much harder to lose the weight and get my body back in shape after having my second child. I used the techniques, suggestions and exercises in this this book….and it totally worked! I was going to the gym doing my own workouts and kept getting frustrated as I was not losing any weight. After reading this book and doing all the suggestions, the weight finally started to come off. I am happy to say that I actually am in better shape now then before I got pregnant with my second child. A must have book for any woman trying to stay in shape while pregnant or to get back in shape after having a child. I totally recommend it!!  -Jamie H (amazon.com)

Totally Recommend It!

This book covers just about everything!  Most prenatal nutrition books I looked at were cookbooks that contained nutrition information that can be found in a prenatal pamphlet or website.  Mommy Fabulous has a few pages of recipes, but it is not a cookbook.  Mommy Fabulous is a real nutrition guide that shows you how to make food choices, boost your metabolism, teaching you how certain foods can interfere with your baby’s brain development, even how to avoid developing gestational diabetes.  There is a section on how to avoid cravings that lead to overeating or making poor food choices that I found very helpful.  As far as the exercise section, it is not just a compilation of exercises; she literally builds you a workout schedule based on your fitness level, showing you how to spend your workout time.  This was really helpful because I am the type who gets to the gym and does the same thing every time.  It is easy to follow because every exercise has pictures with clear instructions, tips and adjustments for different fitness levels.  If it hadn’t been for the postpartum guide, I would have waited months before exercising again.  I just delivered, so I am still working on it, but the book has suggestions for things to do around the house with a newborn and I feel like they are making a difference already.  I totally recommend this book! - Sandy P (dani-fabulous.com)

Thanks for making me fabulous again

I am a fitness class instructor and wanted a prenatal program that would keep me in shape during my pregnancy and get me into shape after I delivered as quickly as possible so I could return to work.  Most books I looked at had suggestions about stuff you can do while pregnant, but they were generic and seemed to be written for beginners in their third trimester.  Mommy Fabulous is exactly what I was looking for.  The workout program is clear, specific and geared toward staying in real shape.  It changes through the pregnancy so one book can get you from the first trimester through 6 months postpartum.  You can tell this trainer knows what she is talking about.  I am more fit than most women, so I was impressed that this book provides so many variations and modifications that all fitness levels can do the program.  I also feel I generally eat pretty well, but after reading the nutrition section I was motivated to eat even better.  There is a really good taco recipe!  This book is a must have for anyone who want s to exercise while pregnant.  –Jaklyn, Walnut Creek CA
