Ballerinas aren’t the only people who benefit from foot exercises. After wearing flip flops all summer, which have little arch support, your feet may need some attention. Our feet are literally the basis for every activity we do, but we rarely exercise them. These two exercises will reinforce your base.
Exercise #1 Spread your toes as far apart as you can and hold for two counts before relaxing. Perform 10 reps.
Exercise #2 Pick items up with your toes. Practice with a dish towel, then challenge yourself with a heavier object like a stuffed animal.
Stretch: To stretch the foot, do calf stretches with no shoes on.
Wearing shoes with worn soles can cause plantar fascitis, an inflammation of the tissue connecting the toes to the heels. Wearing shoes with no arch support, like flip flops, can strain the Achilles tendons and fascia causing heel pain. Be good to your feet, you will need them your whole life.
