Quick Fix for Weight Loss Blues #2

 Celebrate Your Victories

You want to lose weight, your goal is to lose weight, but weight naturally fluctuates over time.  It can be very frustrating to lose two pounds only to see you have gained one back five days later.  Real, lasting weight loss happens gradually.  So to stick with it, you have to keep a positive outlook.  Instead of focusing solely on pounds, celebrate your other victories.  Is it easier to cross your legs or get out of the car?  Can you go faster or longer?  Are your sets easier to perform?  These are real fitness victories.  Celebrate by reminding yourself all the time, especially to help motivate during a workout.  Celebrate by telling your support team about it.  Leave an “I’m proud of you” post-it on the mirror.  Do not celebrate by doing something to derail your efforts like eating junk.  Keep your eye on the prize, but revel in your progress.

Weight loss efforts are best measured by how far you have come, not how far you have to go

Quick Fix for Weight Loss Blues #1

Many people who are trying to lose weight keep checking the scale and can become very frustrated when their exercise efforts don’t pay off in terms of lost pounds.  It can be so discouraging that you feel like giving up.  Exercise is a necessary and non-negotiable activity for everyone to stay healthy.  Everyone needs to exercise whether they are trying to lose weight or not.  To keep your spirits up when the scale is not moving you might consider switching your focus.  Instead of working out to lose ten pounds, try setting a new fitness goal like running an 8 minute mile, or working up to level 5 on the stair climber or bench pressing twenty more pounds than you can now.  These fitness goals will keep you more motivated.  Your weight is bound to decline as you become more fit and get closer to reaching your goal.
