Is it okay to workout for one hour 3 times per week, or is it better to workout for half an hour 6 times per week?
Because of our busy lives we often want to compress the time it takes to do things. While the total time spent exercising in this question is still 3 hours per week, it does make a difference if those three hours are done in three sessions or in six. It is better to spend 6 half hour sessions exercising six days of the week, rather than grouping the time into three longer sessions. This is why: with consistency, the body will continue to get stronger and your metabolism will continue to improve. Think of your metabolism like an old clock. If you wind it everyday, it will tick consistently everyday. If you wind it up one day and leave it to coast, it will run slow, stop, hesitate, etc. When you go to wind it again, it will respond, but it just won’t have the smooth momentum of a metabolism that gets consistent attention. That being said, any activity is better than no activity. So if you can only spare time 3 days of the week, do it.
For maximal health benefits and fitness everyone needs one hour of continuous physical activity per day. If you are not ready for that, make it your goal and work up to it by adding additional days and time as your fitness improves.
